5 people have died from falling off of Angel’s Landing trail at Zion National Park in Utah.
Zion National Park is located in southern Utah. One of its main attractions is the deep canyon that runs through it called Zion Canyon.
This 15 mile long canyon cuts up to half a mile deep into the beautiful reddish and tan colored Navajo Sandstone.
The park has numerous trails throughout. Since they get close to the canyon, there have, unfortunately, been some accidents throughout the years. An unconfirmed number of about 30 fatalities from falling have been reported.
Perhaps the most popular of these trails is Angels Landing. This is the longest round trip of all seven trails, and takes you up the Angels Landing rock formation. This is the best view of the Zion Canyon in the park.
Five people have been lost here, though this isn’t the most of any place in the park. The Emerald Pools have claimed 7. No other location has had more than 2 accidental deaths.
The park is also home to an unusual variety of life. The park holds four “life zones” of desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. These life zones contains numerous plant species as well as 289 species of birds, 75 mammals, and 32 reptiles
