The ‘Cliffs of Insanity’ from the Princess Bride are actually the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland.
The Cliffs of Moher are extremely beautiful, being used in movies and music videos many times over.
The cliffs were the “Cliffs of Insanity” in ‘The Princess Bride,’ for one. They have also appeared in a Harry Potter film, the film ‘Leap Year,’ Maroon 5’s ‘Runaway’ video and many other media.
They're one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions as well, drawing nearly a million visitors a year.
Hag’s Head is the southernmost point of the cliffs and rise 390 feet over the ocean. The highest point is near the midpoint of the cliffs, towering over the ocean at 702 feet.
Just south of the high point is O’Brien’s Tower, a round stone tower built in 1835. From atop the tower, visitors can see the Aran Islands in Galway Bay, the Maumturks and Twelve Pins mountain ranges to the north in County Galway, and Loop Head to the south.
Tourists looking for a different view can take a ferry trip along the cliffs. It must make you feel small to stand on the deck of a boat next to these giants.
